DSM Tools Suite Installation Guide for FrSky ETHOS Radios

This guide explains how to install DSM Tools Suite on FrSky ETHOS radios. DSM Tools adds useful utilities for working with Spektrum DSM2 and DSMX receivers, including forward programming and receiver configuration tools.

DSM Tools Suite Project

DSM Tools Suite is an open-source Lua tool package created by the RC community to add additional Spektrum receiver tools to modern radios including:

  • FrSky ETHOS
  • EdgeTX
  • OpenTX

Download DSM Tools Suite

The current ETHOS release at the time of writing is:

dsmtools-ethos-2.4.zip

Download the file:

dsmtools-ethos-2.4.zip

Important: The File Must Be Unzipped

Do NOT copy the ZIP file directly to the radio.

A ZIP file is a compressed archive and must be extracted first before copying the files to the radio.

Installing DSM Tools Suite

Step 1 — Extract the ZIP File

On your computer, extract or unzip the downloaded archive:

dsmtools-ethos-2.4.zip

This will create several folders and Lua files.

Step 2 — Connect the Radio

Connect the FrSky radio to your computer using a USB cable and select:

ETHOS Suite

The radio will mount as USB drives. Open the SD card.

Step 3 — Copy Files to the Scripts Folder

Copy the extracted DSM Tools files into the radio's scripts directory:

/scripts/

After installation the folder structure should include:

/scripts/dsm-tools

and additional subfolders and Lua files.

Verify DSM Tools Installed Correctly

After copying the files:

  • Disconnect the radio
  • Return to ETHOS
  • Press the SYS button

Scroll through the tools until you find the:

DSM Tools Suite

If the DSM Tools Suite icon appears, the installation was successful.

If DSM Tools Does Not Appear

Common causes include:

  • The ZIP file was copied instead of being extracted
  • The files were copied to the wrong folder
  • The folder structure under /scripts was modified
Tip:
If you only see dsmtools-ethos-2.4.zip inside the scripts folder, the installation was not done correctly. The archive must be extracted first.
