EdgeTX H7 Update Advisory

This guide covers STM32H7-based EdgeTX radios, including the RadioMaster TX16S MK3 Standard, TX16S MK3 MAX and TX15. H7 radios update differently from older STM32F2 and STM32F4 radios.

Current Stable Release: EdgeTX 2.12.5

EdgeTX 2.12.5 “Queen Anne’s Revenge” is the current stable release at this review. The EdgeTX team recommends this fifth maintenance release for users already on 2.12.x. It includes bootloader flashing fixes and fixes for issues that could trigger emergency mode, along with other improvements.

This replaces the previous 2.12.0 and 2.12.0-rc4 recommendations on this page. Nightly builds are testing builds, not the stable release recommended here.

TX16S MK3 Standard and MAX Compatibility

The EdgeTX project merged support for both TX16S MK3 Standard and MAX into the 2.12 branch. RadioMaster’s MAX product specification still states “3.0.0 or higher,” while its firmware downloads list TX16S MK3 2.12.0 storage contents. Check the exact radio target and current official instructions rather than choosing firmware by version number alone.

Before Updating

  • Back up radio settings, model files and storage contents.
  • Read the current release notes and select firmware for your exact radio.
  • Use the appropriate SD card contents for your firmware and radio.
  • Make models safe before bench testing.

Supported H7 Update Methods

Follow the official H7 instructions. Supported methods are bootloader UF2 file copy or EdgeTX Companion version 2.12 or later. Traditional standalone DFU tools are not the H7 update method described here.

Bootloader and UF2 File Copy

  1. Download the correct radio-specific firmware from official EdgeTX resources.
  2. Enter your radio’s bootloader mode. On most supported radios, hold the horizontal trims inward while powering on; confirm the procedure for your model.
  3. Connect with a USB-A to USB-C cable. The official H7 instructions advise against USB-C to USB-C cables.
  4. Copy the correct UF2 firmware to the EDGETX_UF2 drive.
  5. Wait for completion, then safely eject or disconnect. The radio should restart with firmware and bootloader updated.

EdgeTX Companion

Use Companion 2.12 or later with the correct radio profile. Companion supports H7 updates through UF2 or DFU depending on how the radio is connected. Follow the official instructions to select and write the correct firmware.

After Updating

Fully bench-test every model before flight. Check channel mapping, control directions, switches, throttle hold, failsafe, telemetry, and your scripts or widgets. Resolve unexpected behavior before flying.

Older Radios and Migration

STM32F2 radios are not supported by EdgeTX 2.12; EdgeTX 2.11 is their last supported release series. Check the release’s supported-target list before installing.

The current release notes specify an intermediate EdgeTX 2.8.x firmware or Companion 2.10.x migration route when upgrading from OpenTX 2.3 or EdgeTX 2.4/2.5. Opening or converting old OpenTX .otx files requires Companion 2.10 or earlier. Current macOS Companion builds require macOS 12 or later.

Use stable firmware supported for your exact radio, follow the H7-specific instructions, keep backups and bench-test all models afterward.
